The Story Behind the Craft
Antra's journey started in Sigulda, where she learned traditional knitting from her grandmother — a master of Latvian mitten patterns. Those early lessons in her grandmother's workshop planted seeds that shaped everything that followed.
After completing her degree, she spent eight years at the Museum of Ethnography, doing the detailed work that most people never see. Documenting patterns. Tracing regional variations. Understanding why communities developed their own distinct mitten designs. This wasn't abstract research — it was about preserving knowledge that could have been lost.
The transition to hands-on teaching came naturally. Museums are important, but so is keeping these skills alive in people's hands. When she founded Vilnas Pūra in 2015, the goal was simple: create a space where people could learn properly, where tradition wasn't treated as something distant and historical, but as something living and relevant.
Now at solvanex SIA, she's focused on what she does best — teaching and creating resources. The work remains rooted in respect for tradition, but it's always about meeting contemporary learners where they actually are. Because heritage isn't valuable if it's locked away. It's valuable when it's being used, being learned, being passed forward.

Accessible Complexity
Not dumbing down — breaking down. Complex traditional techniques are explained clearly without oversimplifying. You're learning real craft, explained in ways that actually make sense.
Respecting Tradition
History matters. You'll learn why techniques developed the way they did, what they meant to communities, and how that knowledge shapes contemporary practice. Tradition informs modern creativity.
Hands-On Learning
Craft is learned by doing. Theory matters, but real understanding comes from working with materials, making mistakes, and getting feedback. You'll be making things, not just reading about them.
No Rushing
Skills develop at their own pace. We don't push you to advanced projects before you're ready. Solid fundamentals matter more than quick progress. Your foundation determines everything that follows.
